Land for Building

Land for affordable and social housing tends to go through councils and it’s difficult to get a look in when the big developments companies are already well known. The first issue is to find a route to acquiring it, or some of it, for a more localized project.

Play to your strengths … the emphasis upon meeting local needs may help persuade local landowners to sell land to your project, especially if you set up a Land Trust to steward the land in perpetuity for the benefit of the local community. And look for “rural exception sites” which are plots of land on the edge of the defined development boundary, which may not have been allocated in the Local Development Framework but could be suitable for small schemes.
