Workhouse, Presteigne: The First Build

In 2007 David and Sara Bamford of Presteigne embarked on a small building project, to see if they could meet the new sustainable building requirements without going over budget.

“The aim” says David,  “was to make the two buildings affordable … two up, two down and with very low energy demand.”

It was during the construction stage, on a day when the rain had been falling for several weeks, that David and the building team had a Damascene moment.

“We were standing there, with the rain running down our backs and into our boots” recalls David, “and we started to talk about constructing the main building panels in a workshop.”
