Putting it all together

By 2009 SEED had finalised plans for a modular building system, based on the special panels, and also including recycled aggregate hardcore and eco-concrete foundations, under floor heating, passive ventilation, sustainable roofing, warmcell natural fibre insulation in ceilings, argon filled double glazed windows, sun pipes for extra (passive) lighting and rainwater harvesting. The focus was on keeping everything simple but good quality.

That year, SEED built a 3-bed house and boarding house at a cost of £1,300 per square metre. The project attracted much interest when it was also successful in achieving the much sought after Code Level 4 for sustainable housing.
